IDEAS?!?

For all of you now in Japan or recently departed I have a question for you:

My company was hired on to attend the Detroit orientations this year by Hankyu Travel and thus I have been assigned to it.

What I want to know first, was there anything you wish you HAD packed, and in retrospect wish you HADN'T packed?

Also any other pieces of wisdom you wish to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

For those of you NOT in Japan yet I will try and post the outlines of what I discuss at the meetings here under a cut later on for your benefit!

I brought with me 10 art prints, kind of like mini posters that I had on my wall all through Uni. They didn't take up much space or weigh anything, but putting them up on my first day in my apartment really made the place feel like home. So I recommend people bring something like that if they have it for the settling in process.

i would say - ship your winter clothes. on a sloooooooow boat. i did ship mine but they arrived about 2 weeks after i did and sat gathering dust until the end of November. there's no point letting them take up precious suitcase space when you need to be bringing stuff like shoes and marmite.

i agree with what the person said above - bring little bits and pieces to decorate your apartment - i brought postcards and photos and putting them up really warded off the first night blues...
